34e Congrès de l’UEP à Alcalá de Henares. Madrid. Espagne.

34th EPU Congress in Alcalá de Henares. Madrid. Spain.

WHAT WAS A DREAM YESTERDAY IN ALCALÁ DE HENARES HAS COME TRUE.

Different berets, varied colours, under the Spanish sky, a single heart: a heart that beats to the rhythm of the paratrooper! « STAND UP THE PARATROOPERS »!

The veterans of the UEP gathered to celebrate the 34th UEP Congress in the World Heritage Site of Alcalá de Henares. From 07/10/26 to 13/10/26. And not just any time: during the « Cervantine Week » (Semana Cervantina), when the entire city is transformed into a medieval market, in the heart of the animation and warmth of the people of Alcalá — those citizens of Complutum*, kind, generous and civic.

We shared a week full of paratroopers with delegations from Cyprus, Germany, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Poland and Serbia, as well as from the United Kingdom, who were present as an invited observer. The work took place under the direction and leadership of Major General (2nd Section) Juan Cifuentes Álvarez, assisted by his team from the UEP and members of the Federation of Associations of Veteran Parachutists of Spain. The opening ceremony and working sessions took place at the « Prince de Paracuellos » base, the headquarters of our beloved Parachute Brigade (BRIPAC). The BRIPAC was reviewed in honour of the members of the UEP, followed by a meal and moments of conviviality with the paratroopers who make up this unit. The visit was also marked by a tribute to the fallen soldiers and the discovery of the museum.

The delegations also visited EINSA, a company working for the Defence sector.

The EPU’s statutes were updated and the creation of an action plan was proposed to define the long-term trajectory, as well as the strengthening of contacts between members. It was also an opportunity to discover a part of our culture and heritage, of which we are very proud. On the program: a visit to the « Imperial Toledo », lunch, then discovery of the Army Museum and our impressive Alcazar.

As a highlight, the participation in the parade of the Spanish National Day, the « Día de la Hispanidad ». It was an opportunity to present part of our armed forces and to share with them the military presence, as well as the warmth and fervour of the Spanish people during their visit. An unforgettable day for our paratrooper guests of the UEP, who were able to see the organizational capacity of our armed forces and their military rigor by parading alongside them along the Paseo del Prado, Recoletos and Castellana. What an emotion and what a pride to feel the hearts of these veterans — army generals, lieutenant-generals, major generals, brigadier generals and colonels beating again, with vigour and strength — who, until a few years ago, constituted the elite of the paratrooper elite within the European armies. Carried by the fervour of the public, the Spanish marches and the parade, we shared those values that have always characterized the paratrooper units; values that we strive to continue to embody, while promoting the « culture of defence », to the extent of the possibilities and support offered by our institutions.Through these events – which far exceeded the usual expectations of an EPU Congress – we fulfilled one of the objectives set by the Presidium (the body made up of the presidents of all the member countries) at each congress: to increase the visibility of the EPU.

We offered an image of cohesion to the entire Spanish-speaking world – through the media, television, radio, press and digital platforms – by marching and participating in the jump with the national flag. By marching and then taking our places in the official galleries, in front of Their Majesties, we made what was only a dream come true at the time of its conception. We would like to express our gratitude for the recognition and praise received from the delegations present at the 34th EPU Congress. We look forward to the continuation of this momentum at the 35th Congress, as well as the 21st EPU Parachuting Championship (Landing Precision), which will be held in Italy in 2027.Finally, we welcome Brigadier General Francisco Martín Alonso, the new President of FENASVPE, and his team.

We thank them for their valuable support and contribution to the success of these events, and wish them a successful mandate. We say goodbye to General CIFUENTES’ FORMIDABLE team, thanking them for the immense work of updating and cohesion accomplished within FENASVPE — a work that required 4 intense years of auditing, at no cost.

We are proud to have been part of this excellent team. CONGRATULATIONS!!We express our gratitude to all the units and organizations that, through their support, have made it possible to transform what was only a dream yesterday into a reality made concrete by this convention.

WAKE UP IRON!!
