PAGYPRIOS SYNDESMOS EFEDRON KATADROMEON (PSEK)
On July 9th 1986 our Association was officially founded in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, by leading young officers involved in the war against Turkish invasion in Cyprus in 1974. On March 12th 1994, the UEP tie was handed over to Cyprus during a celebration in Nicosia. The IX Congress was held in Nicosia, in 1999, from October 25th to October 31st.
The statutes of PSEK are founded on the Cypriot Basic Law, which is ensuring the fundamental rights, namely dignity of man, basic human rights, democracy and rule of law; they are stressing political independence and neutrality of the Association as well as being a non – profit – organization.

PSEK in an International Contest, Switzerland
PSEK, with Headquarters in Nicosia, has today 4 107 members and holds a firm standing among the Republic of Cyprus non–government organizations. It has branches in all districts of Cyprus. It organizes military competitions and takes part in similar competitions organized by other countries e.g. Greece, Austria and Switzerland. It has Specialist Rescue Units and multiple task groups, which act on behalf of the Civil Protection Authorities of the Ministry of Interior. In addition, shooting teams, scuba – divers, parachuting teams, a blood transfusion bank and a marathon team have been created. PSEK participates in all ceremonies which take place in national and local anniversaries. More specifically it honors the memory of all those Special Forces soldiers who fell in the line of duty. These commemorations include the 20th of July, for all commandos who fell in battle fighting against the Turkish invaders in 1974.
Skydiving was embraced by the PSEK only in 1989. Since then Cyprus skydiving, in cooperation mainly with the Special Forces of the National Guard, remained at a very high standard. The introduction of the glamour skydiving events of the nineties and freestyle skydiving, saw Cypriot skydivers embrace these tasks and immediately begun taking part in international meetings. As skydiving moves into new disciplines they will no doubt be there at the cutting edge of the sport. The drop zone is a landing area designed specifically for parachute landings. Drop zone staff includes the drop zone operator, manifestors, pilots, instructors, coaches, cameramen, packers, riggers and other general staff.
PSEK in a Local Contest, Cyprus
The first summit of the Cyprus Parachute Federation, founded by PSEK, was held on March 1998, in Nicosia. The Department of Civil Aviation forbids parachuting outside Lakatamia without its written permission of the Director General of Civil Aviation and so initially, the Federation was required to negotiate a more equitable right of access to the air.
No fatal accidents have until now been recorded. The Federation has embarked on a program to improve safety regulation, enhance instruction standards and skills, as well as promote safety education creating the required safety culture amongst parachutists.
PSEK remains the main source producing newcomers to parachuting. Until now, 400 members of PSEK have been credited through the determined procedures. Many others (non – members) followed the course through the PSEK. PD as well as Parafoil types are used.

Competitions are organized at regional, national and international levels in most of these disciplines. Some of them offer amateur competition. Many of the more photogenic/videogenic variants also enjoy sponsored events with prize money for the winners. Demonstrations, in public, are executed mainly aiming at raising funds for humanist purposes.
PSEK in a Demo in Slovenia, 2004
The majority of jumpers tend to be non–competitive, enjoying the opportunity to ‘‘get some air’’ with their friends on weekends and holidays. The atmosphere of their gathering is relaxed, sociable and welcoming to newcomers. Party events are arranged at local or national scale each year, attracting both the enthusiastic young jumpers and many of their elders.
As new technological advances and performance enhancements are introduced, they tend to nudge equipment prices higher. Older jumpers have already bought their equipment. The Cyprus Sport Organization, though, has in some cases cordially sponsored the equipment necessary, for competitions or meetings, taking place within the UEP.
The Committee of PSEK feels very proud and pleased for the fact that its innovative proposal, submitted during the UEP Congress in Cyprus in 1999 for the introduction of a UEP Parachutists Competition on a yearly basis has materialized and has already become an established UEP practice.
Our common aspiration is to render our UEP Parachuting Competition a major competition for the European parachutists throughout Europe. It is both paramount and essential to work, therefore, in a determined and constructive way, towards the further enhancement and development of the UEP parachuting competitions/events. To this effect, it is felt that the necessary promotion and publicity is fundamental.
PSEK Christmas Eve Dinner, December 2018
The UEP can play a modest but an exemplary role through the human solidarity that it represents by bringing together former soldiers, an obviously very important human quality in the creation of the European spirit which is consistently adopted and supported by the EU itself. The UEP must therefore strengthen its influence by expansion and enlargement; by strengthening existing links among its current members; through bilateral and multilateral contacts; by attracting eminent personalities.
